Quando madura, a manga pode ter a cor amarela, vermelha ou laranja. Devido à sua variedade, no momento do plantio da manga, deverão ser considerados aspectos como: tolerância a pragas e doenças, qualidade do fruto e outros.
No Brasil, o plantio de manga mais comum é a do tipo Haden. Mas a Tommy, Atkins, Kent e Van Dyke, são exemplos das que têm bastante potencial produtivo e de qualidade para consumo in natura. Além dessas, a Manga Espada, Rosa, Ubá, Carlota e Maranhão são bastante suculentas e saborosas.

Clima
Por ser uma planta de clima tropical, o plantio de manga se adapta bem a regiões que apresentam estações secas e chuvosas não muito definidas.
Antes de mais nada, para um bom plantio de manga é importante se atentar para que ela não tenha contato com chuva em excesso em épocas inadequadas, pois podem causar problemas na qualidade das frutas, principalmente se acontecer durante sua floração.
Temperatura
Para o plantio adequado de manga é importante se atentar para as temperaturas que podem ajudar no seu desenvolvimento.
Temperaturas muito elevadas (maiores de 36 °C) ou muito baixas (menores de 10 °C) podem acabar prejudicando o crescimento da planta. Dessa forma, reduzir a sua produção e a qualidade de seus frutos.
A princípio, sabe-se que a variação de temperatura ideal para o plantio de manga está entre 20 °C e 29 °C.

Solo
Para conseguir o solo ideal necessário para o plantio da manga, é importante que este tenha textura média, seja areno-argiloso (o que facilitará o desenvolvimento do sistema radicular). Do mesmo modo, é imprescindível ter uma boa drenagem, fertilidade e relevo plano ou pouco acidentado. Já em relação à faixa de pH, o ideal para o cultivo de manga está em torno de 5,5 a 7,5.
Além disso, é importante que as covas tenham espaçamento em torno de 40×40×40 centímetros. Nesse sentido, a manga tem a necessidade que sua poda seja realizada com frequência, de forma a manter a planta mais encorpada.
A medida sugerida para essa árvore é de 7×6 metros a 6×4 metros. Preferencialmente, a poda deve começar no seu primeiro ano. Desse modo, o ramo podado deve ser protegido com pinceladas de pasta à base de cobre ou tinta látex.
Cuidados no plantio da manga
Você deve misturar 20 litros de esterco de curral curtido, ou orgânico similar, juntamente com 250 gramas de superfosfato simples e 250 gramas de calcário. Isso, para a adubação na terra na qual será realizado o plantio.
No entanto, deverá ter mais atenção ao ataque de pragas como cochonilhas nas folhas e no tronco da mangueira, além de perfurações por brocas nos ramos.
Colheita
O critério mais usado para a colheita depois do plantio de manga é a mudança na cor da casca das frutas e da sua polpa.
Essa mudança acontece em mais ou menos 100 dias após o florescimento da planta e depois da queda de alguns frutos maduros. Vale ressaltar que, esse período do plantio de manga é variável, pois depende do clima e do tipo de cultivo envolvido.
