SIGA-NOS  Mauricio Souza é o novo técnico do Vasco

Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 13 (AFI) – Assim como o Portal Futebol Interior adiantou na tarde deste domingo (12), o Vasco seguiu o rumor anunciou, nesta segunda-feira, a contratação de Maurício Souza para assumir o cargo de técnico do clube, no lugar de Zé Ricardo, que aceitou uma proposta do Shimizu S-Pulse, do Japão. Souza chega a São Januário acompanhado do auxiliar João Eduardo, com vínculo válido até o final da atual temporada, para sua primeira experiência como treinador de um time profissional.

O novo técnico vascaíno passou os últimos anos trabalhando no Flamengo, clube no qual comandou diversas equipes das categorias de base antes de integrar a comissão técnica do time principal. Foi treinador interino na reta final da temporada 2021, após a demissão de Renato Gaúcho, mas acabou desligado pela diretoria quando Paulo Sousa – demitido na semana passada – foi contratado, pois o português trouxe sua própria comissão.

Maurício Souza chegou a ir para o Atlhetico-PR, também como auxiliar, em passagem curta encerrada no mês passado. Antes de trabalhar no time paranaense e no Flamengo, teve outras experiências no Rio de Janeiro, sua terra natal. Além de ter trabalhado nas categorias formação do Botafogo, vestiu a camisa do próprio Vasco como atleta do futsal adulto, em 2001, e foi treinador da base cruzmaltina da modalidade, em 2007.

O técnico encontrará um Vasco invicto na Série B, com seis vitórias, seis empates e 24 pontos, campanha responsável por deixar o time na terceira colocação. O único foco da temporada é devolver o clube à primeira divisão nacional, em um ano em que as expectativas giram em torno da concretização da venda da SAF vascaína à 777 Partners.
