Mas, se você mora, já passou ou irá passar pelo Nordeste em algum momento da sua vida, não pode deixar de experimentar pratos como a Maxixada.
Se você é íntimo desse fruto e possui o hábito de cultivar uma horta em casa, já imaginou em plantar e colher o maxixe verdinho diretamente no seu quintal? Nas próximas linhas, você conhecerá um pouco mais sobre o fruto, bem como dicas de como realizar o seu plantio.
Mas, maxixe não é uma dança?
Também! Mas, aqui, estamos falando de um fruto originário da África, trazido ao Brasil pelos escravos, e que logo foi incorporado à gastronomia nordestina.
O maxixe é da família Cucurbitaceae, onde também faz parte o pepino. O seu aroma e sabor até lembram um pouco as do “primo” pepino, só que com um leve toque a mais de amargor para o primeiro.
Além da já mencionada Maxixada, prato típico da culinária baiana feito com carne seca, azeite de dendê, leite de coco e camarão, o maxixe também pode ser servido com feijoada, frango ou como acompanhamento em saladas. A versatilidade em seu uso é tamanha que é possível preparar até mesmo doces e sucos.
Gostei, quero plantar. E agora?
O maxixe é uma trepadeira rasteira, contudo, em matéria produzida pelo programa MT Rural (afiliada à Rede Globo em Mato Grosso) em 2016, trouxe visibilidade de experimentos que mostraram que a qualidade do plantio apresenta melhoras significativas ao cultivar em cercas ou treliças.
Quando suspenso, o maxixe fica mais exposto ao Sol, diferente de quando fica encostado ao solo. Nele, a exposição a fungos e bactérias aumenta.

O espaço também é muito importante, pois a planta precisa de contato direto com o sol. Por isso, o recomendado é aproveitar aquela parede ou janela que você já sabe que possui maior exposição solar.
As etapas para o plantio são relativamente simples, necessitando apenas de alguns itens. Por exemplo: vaso de madeira, argila ou cimento, sementes, terra vegetal ou preta, adubo e pedras britadas.
Juntou tudo? Então, mãos à massa!
A primeira coisa que você colocará dentro do vaso são as pedras britadas, seguido pela terra adubada. Cave uma pequena cova com cerca de 2 centímetros de profundidade, coloque as sementes e cubra-as com terra para regá-las com água na sequência.
Caso esse procedimento seja feito em uma horta, o passo a passo é o mesmo. Apenas mantenha uma distância de 2 a 3 metros entre as mudas e 1 metro entre as sementes.
Regue o maxixe todos os dias, mas cuidado para que o solo não fique encharcado. Os primeiros frutos devem começar a aparecer entre 50 a 80 dias após a realização do plantio, variando conforme a situação do cultivo.
Antes de cultivar, verifique se a coloração está mais para verde do que amarelado. O tamanho ideal do fruto pode variar entre 3 a 7 centímetros de comprimento.
